Ray,I've always thought Bolden recorded. Those wax cylinder players were capable of recording (I think) so it would have been difficult for Bolden to remain unrecorded, IMO. Did Allen say that Bolden was recorded at a studio?

I thought I heard Judge Fogerty say "30 Days in the workhouse without any pay. A brand new broom to keep the place clean" I thought he said these things to me.- Funky Butt

Henry "Red" Allen was from Algiers. He told me that he played with Buddy Bolden and visited him in the hospital. He said Buddy did record but none are in existence. I used to talk to Henry back in the fifties at the Metropole Cafe on Times Square on many nights. I was very young but listening to Higenbotham, Teagarden, The Hawk, Teddy and Henry was really special. Henry was a TRUE Prince of a person.

Good stuff. If you were seeking his favorite..No One actually knows. It was probably of his own drift which is now reformed over and over.It would be like trying to teach a class of students without the benefit of a Victrola.I have often wondered, even in his hard days in asylum, what actually was his favorite tune.Thank you for keeping the drift alive.Open for conversation at your leisure.
