Paul Newman was a good actor and as I have read, a very nice person too(unlike other actors!).

people are celebrated all the time for their efforts and newman did receive the kennedy centre honours in 1992. what you may be missing is that our reactions to these deaths have less to with the people themselves ( i mean we don't really know them) and more to do with the personal memories we associate with them. when we lament newman's death, we are saying goodbye to something that has passed, that won't be again. its a natural human emotion.
