No, a "good bassist" has good technique and a good perception of genre and its associated expressive techniques as well. What you outlined was under the category of a "whimpy rock band bassist". Bass is an instrument too, not just a support.

agreed, it was unfortunate for me for listening to pop punk for the longest time, until i discovered jazz and funk (not that i hate listening to pop punk though, i mean, look at my vids lol, all pop punk)
