Well according to some Greeks (herodotos for sintance) Greece gained it's knowledge from Egypt. This does not make Greece civilastion any less worthy (assuming it's true). Also note that several civilastions and peoples did develop democratic institutions independetnly (more or less) from the greeks (and Greek democracy is flawed as only some groups held influence)
