Totally untrue the real reason is these masters realize they would loose badly in an MMA Match and that they're staged technique's would not work against a trained MMA fighter. Ask yourself this Why is it that not one aikido practicioner has entered or Won in an MMA match the reason is that it simply will not work against a trained fighter. It might or probably would work against the average person however but what would the purpose be than.

Actually Aikido could be in MMA. Aikido isn't a group of techniques it's a way of using your body during the execution of techniques. There might be fighters using Aiki all the time, no-one would know.

Actually the reason why its not in the mma is because aikido has lethal joint locks and can break bones easily. This would be unfair to the other fighters.

and pls dont get me wrong,i respect Aikido and all other martial arts, and Aikido is definetly one of the most beautifull martial arts but when you train some other arts you realise that its not as usefull as you would think....but it helps ALOT in training other arts, especially "gentle arts" like Bjj becaouse of the momentum redirection and the fact that you control your body alot better....

my Bjj instructor trained Aikido for over 30 years now,and he is still training it,but he said that honestly it is not as usefull as most aikidokas would like to believe,he said that after only a year of Bjj training he already knew it was more usefull than Aikido....he still trains it but only becaouse of the beauty and the harmony of the art,not becaouse of its effectivnes....

This is the upper echelons of Aikido where the practitioner is very skilled, we are talking 20-30 years training. Those who have studied less will not have the skill or confidence to let a fight go on for so long and will want to finish it right away by bringing harm or even worse case scenario death to the attacker which will bring other uninvited events into their lives like lawsuits. Aikido teaches you to be accountable for your actions unlike most other martial arts. Hope that helps :)

Hi Carefree, which bit is not useful? The fact that they dont get hurt? If thats the case then imagine this...as an attacker you try and try to grab hold or punch this person but he keeps deflecting you no matter what you do. So you pull out a knife, same thing happens, theres no point getting into firearms because no martial art can beat a bullet unless you get there before he fires his gun. Eventually guess whos gunna get tired first and give up?

not trashing this, but i don't see how this is useful in real life situations. Nonetheless any martial arts requires mental and physical strength. |
