I've been a martial arts fan my whole life, and since I've moved to Los Angeles it's like a mecca for martial arts. Marc Denny and Eric Knaus, two of the founding fathers of The Dog Brothers, are full contact stick fighters who have traveled the world in their training and have brought a real world use mentality to Stick Fighting. These guys are the real deal, I had been a fan for years, when I got hired to put together a stick fighting video tape for Dreamworks. The same team that brought you "You Got Served" was going to serve up some pain, with Sticks! If you haven't seen their website, www.dogbrothers.com, go check it out. When the deal went south with Dreamworks, Mark hired me to try to shape up the material for a release or a sale to another movie company. The UFC was getting bigger and bigger, why not join the fun? I haven't seen Mark in years and I don't know what happened to his project, but this stuff is amazing.

I like that sport but it seems that some fighters need a better motor function.

When you put it on in the real world you find out some holds don't work on short guys, some holds work better on bigger guys with muscles, some pain techniques don't work on everyone, some kicks weren't as fancy smooth as they were on the body bag, so at the end of the day it's a good idea to keep your ego real about your training.

That's the way it is with all martial arts. The technique can look beautiful in the gym...but once you get out to full sparring things don't go perfectly.

Ok, that sounds allright

it just seems hardcore - the vid shows gathering fights - fight is fight and training is training (nobody must fight !)- and even on such fights, the human body shows its residance against sticks. It´s very rare, that fighters don´t go to work mondays after such. But you´re right - one needs to love it ....

This seem hardcore...but its not for me, thats for sure - when I get injured, like buckle my knee or break an arm fx, I have to stay out of training for months on end and thats really detrimental to my progress - I dont have time for that . period! , Ill take body armor any day!

I tried this recently and its a lot harder than it looks. Just the little shots to the bone on the forearm and pretty damaging. Its definatly a learning experience and I recommend trying stick fighting, for those who haven't yet.

wow intense, there's some kung fu practioners i know at a kung fu club i trained at claiming how they can beat any escrima stick fighter.. i would like to see them fight against the dog brothers and see if they can back up what they say, i know for one the dog brothers whil whip their asses haha.

The technique is there....they also demonstrate well how some people's 'imagined' technique falls apart when faced with reality...some of the 'technique' some FMA guys claim to have and demonstrate in the gym while play sparring....doesn't work there.
