THE SMITHS= BEST

rouke/joyce were good but stole tons of money from Morrissey/Marr in the 90´s over the rights of the songs. They got a few million out of the deal too

I have the bootleg of the Troy Tate sessions on vinyl and its outstanding. I think they put Jeane out as a B side as a nod to Troy Tate.

rourke/joyce = most underrated rhythm section ever.

I can't say they were produced well, on the first LP, because generally overproduced stuff sounds like Def Leppard. I'd rather have the first album sound like mainstream production, rather than what it is. I mean, at least with DF you can hear all the instruments well.

Very true - 1 of the few tracks where Johnny played harmonica. However the version on Hatful Of Hollow is really the original (i.e. the first studio recording - for a John Peel session). It was just released later. I had it on tape from when it was first broadcast in July 83. In my opinion all the tracks on the first LP were better in those earlier radio 1 sessions or in the unreleased Troy Tate sessions. Porter did a poor job. Over produced and polished - the earlier sessions had far more soul.

This live version sounds way better than the studio recording...
