Chinese IS a language...lolspoken in china, singapore (2nd language) a little in taiwan etc.Cantonese is arguably based on mandarin and chinese.btw mandarin and Chinese is the same thing if you ask me, if you ask a Canadian then they will tell you chinese is the same as cantonese, depends on who you ask i guess

*Cough*.... not " chinese or cantonese " lool... techniquelly chinese isn't a language :S.. but there is chinese writing lol... it's mainly cantonese and mandarin. correct me if i'm wrong :)!!!
