Richard Crabbe DeBordes talks about Harimau Minangkabau. Check him out on www.de-bordesfoundation.orgThe Harimau system that is mostly practiced in United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Central and South America, Ukraine, Russia and Africa today is that of the Hanafi family, and was predominantly introduced and propagated by Pendekar Suchi Guru Besar Richard Crabbes de Bordes and his chosen offshoots. In recent years the practice of Pencak Silat has undergone a transition, many perguruan (schools) being of relatively recent innovation. In addition the introduction of olah raga, the sporting component of Pencak Silat, has in some cases led to a downgrading of the effectiveness of Silat as a combative art.Silat as propagated by the Hanafi family is the legacy of a warrior tradition tracing its ancestry back to the sixteenth century and the great warrior and founder of the clan Lubuk Ngantungan, Poyen LebehPendekar Suchi Guru Besar Richard Crabbe de Bordes, nicknamed "Machan Hitan", the "Black Tiger", places heavy emphasis in his instruction on Bela Diri (self defence). Continuing the warrior tradition of which he is a part, there are no sporting applications to the Silat that he teaches.Guru de Bordes specialises in warfare and conflict resolution, the practical means for self preservation and protection. The system that he teaches is studied by law enforcement and special forces groups around the world. Coming under the auspices of the Palero Beringin Sakti Pencak Silat Association International, he and his students are guided by the blessing of Maha Guru Adityo Hanafi, his father, General (Rtd.) A. M. Hanafi, and the forefathers of the art that have gone before them.

as a guru of this art,the history of all southeast asian arts have the same influence, the sriprivit empire,a south indian art brought over during the conquest of most of S.E ASIA ,from siam to cambodia, vietnam to phillipines and java, mixed in with local arts and then were influenced by chinese styles-you can see this in similarites particularly between silat and kali-they are related to a indian art once called veram-which is said to be a mix of greco-persian and indian marital arts-

i think u are referring to "kebatinan" or the spiritual aspect of silat? Sang Persata Nala was not really human? thats the 1st time I encounter this kind of statement.. can u please, elaborate? i know persata nala was a javanese, but not really human? hmmm.. thats a new thing 2 me. n moreover, the "elven race" that taught their arts, i think its more towards kebatinan, plus nowadays as most pesilat embrace Islam, most of them said these "elven races" are Jinns. correct me if im wrong. :)

Not true there are secrets passed on only by word of mouth about its origins, and it predates the arrival of Indian or Chinese immigrants or even Hindu and Buddhist influences in the region. Many forgotten legends resemble lord of the rings involving an ancient elven race that taught the arts to the "servants". For instance, not even many Malays realise that Adi Petra was a wizard or that Sang Persanta Nala was not really human. Thus the keris is unique to Malays
