I wish that there was more film footage of "Lady Day". Back in the day, that was Billie Holiday's nickname. They called her simply..."Lady Day." She of course had more live performances, but unfortunately, her poor health, (due to substance abuse) and legal problems would begin to interfere with Lady Days' career and her life would take a downward and tragic spiral that lead to her untimely death, but thank goodness we do have some film footage of her performing.

In my opinion, this is the best version of this beautiful jazz standard. As a 12 year old, I deeply appreciate jazz music. Just looks at lady. I am an 80's baby and I love this song (God Bless the Child) and everything that it stands for. Thank you for taking me back to the days when my mama sang this song to me while watching "Lady Sings the Blues". I believe that I am the person that I am today because of the great music that I was exposed to at a young age.

Chilling to see her in this state of perfection... full bodied, caramel complexion, voice thick and liquid, sexy and serious...there was no distance between her persona and the meaning of the lyrics. Holy, holy, holy!
